Description

These Delicious Cajun Chicken Sloppy Joes are a spicy and flavorful twist on the classic Sloppy Joe. With juicy Cajun-seasoned chicken and a rich, savory sauce, this dish packs a punch with every bite. The combination of tender chicken, bell pepper, and green onions, topped with a savory sauce, makes these sandwiches an easy and delicious meal for any night of the week.

Ingredients

Scale
  • For the Cajun Chicken:

    • 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts, diced

    • 1 tbsp olive oil

    • 1 tbsp Cajun seasoning

    • 1/2 tsp garlic powder

    • 1/2 tsp onion powder

    • Salt and pepper to taste

  • For the Sloppy Joe Sauce:

    • 1/4 cup ketchup

    • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

    • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard

    • 1 tbsp brown sugar

    • 1 tsp hot sauce (optional, for extra heat)

  • For Assembling:

    • 4 hamburger buns (or sandwich rolls)

    • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)

    • Fresh parsley or green onions for garnish

Instructions

  • Cook the Cajun Chicken:

    • Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.

    • Season the diced chicken with Cajun seasoning, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.

    • Add the chicken to the skillet and cook, stirring occasionally, until the chicken is fully cooked and browned, about 6-8 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.

  • Make the Sloppy Joe Sauce:

    • In a small bowl, whisk together ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, brown sugar, and hot sauce (if using). Adjust the seasoning to taste.

  • Combine Chicken and Sauce:

    • Add the cooked Cajun chicken back into the skillet.

    • Pour the Sloppy Joe sauce over the chicken and stir to combine.

    • Simmer on low heat for 5-7 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken and coat the chicken.

  • Assemble the Sloppy Joes:

    • Toast the hamburger buns lightly on a skillet or in the oven.

    • Spoon the Cajun chicken mixture onto the bottom half of each bun.

    • Top with shredded cheddar cheese, if desired.

    • Add the top bun and garnish with fresh parsley or green onions.

  • Serve:

    • Serve the Cajun Chicken Sloppy Joes with your favorite sides, such as fries, chips, or a salad.

Notes

  • You can adjust the spiciness of the dish by adding more or less hot sauce, or by omitting the hot sauce entirely.

  • If you prefer a vegetarian version, substitute the chicken with plant-based protein or a combination of sautéed mushrooms.

  • Serve with extra napkins – these Sloppy Joes can get messy but are definitely worth it!
