Description

This classic Old Fashioned Goulash is a comforting, hearty dish that brings together ground beef, tomatoes, and elbow macaroni in a savory, flavorful sauce. It’s easy to make and perfect for a cozy family meal. Top with shredded cheddar cheese for a creamy finish!

Ingredients

Scale

For the Goulash:

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes, undrained
  • 1 can (8 oz) tomato sauce
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 cups elbow macaroni
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)

Instructions

  • Brown the Beef:
In a large pot, brown the ground beef over medium heat, breaking it apart with a spoon. Once browned and cooked through, drain any excess fat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the pot and sauté for about 3 minutes until fragrant.

  • Add the Tomatoes and Seasonings:
Stir in the undrained diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, beef broth, Italian seasoning, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Bring the mixture to a simmer, stirring occasionally.

  • Cook the Pasta:
Add the elbow macaroni to the pot, stirring to combine. Cover and cook for 12-15 minutes, or until the pasta is tender and the sauce has thickened. Stir occasionally to ensure the pasta doesn’t stick to the bottom.

  • Serve and Enjoy:
Remove from heat and serve immediately. Top with shredded cheddar cheese if desired for an extra creamy touch.

Notes

  • You can substitute ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version of this dish.
  • For added flavor, feel free to mix in some hot sauce or red pepper flakes if you like a bit of spice.
