Description

This Cedar Plank Grilled Salmon is a smoky, flavorful dish that combines the rich taste of salmon with the delicate aroma of cedar wood. The sweet and savory marinade enhances the natural flavors of the fish, while grilling it on the plank gives it a unique charred finish. Perfect for summer BBQs or a special dinner!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cedar plank (soaked in water for at least 2 hours)
  • 1 1/2 pounds salmon fillet (with skin on)
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Soak the Cedar Plank: Soak the cedar plank in water for at least 2 hours to prevent it from catching fire on the grill.
  • Preheat the Grill: Preheat the grill to medium-high heat.
  • Make the Marinade: In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, brown sugar, water, vegetable oil, ground ginger, garlic powder, salt, and pepper until well combined.
  • Prepare the Salmon: Place the salmon fillet on the soaked cedar plank, skin-side down. Brush the fillet generously with the soy sauce mixture, ensuring it’s well-coated.
  • Grill the Salmon: Place the cedar plank with the salmon on the preheated grill. Close the grill lid and cook for about 20 minutes, or until the salmon is cooked through and flakes easily with a fork. (Cooking time may vary based on the thickness of the salmon fillet.)
  • Serve: Carefully remove the cedar plank from the grill, and serve the salmon directly on the plank for an impressive presentation.

Notes

  • If the cedar plank begins to smoke too much, you can spritz it with water to calm the flames, or move it to a cooler side of the grill.
  • For added flavor, you can garnish the salmon with fresh herbs like dill or parsley.
  • This recipe is versatile—try using maple syrup instead of brown sugar for a different flavor profile.
  • Make sure to use a cedar plank specifically intended for grilling (often available at specialty stores).
