Description
These cheesy mashed potato balls are crispy on the outside, warm and gooey on the inside. Made with creamy mashed potatoes and melty cheese, they’re the perfect snack or appetizer, especially when cooked in the air fryer for a healthier twist.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups mashed potatoes (chilled and firm)
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella or cheddar cheese
- ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 egg, beaten
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1 cup breadcrumbs (panko or regular)
- Cooking spray or a little olive oil
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix the chilled mashed potatoes, shredded cheese, grated Parmesan cheese, beaten egg, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper until fully combined.
- Take a spoonful of the mixture and roll it into a ball (about 1-2 tablespoons per ball). Repeat until all the mixture is used.
- Coat each mashed potato ball in breadcrumbs, pressing gently to ensure they are well-coated.
- Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C).
- Lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray or drizzle with a little olive oil. Place the potato balls in the basket in a single layer, leaving space between them.
- Air fry the potato balls at 375°F for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown and crispy on the outside.
- Serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce.
Notes
- If you prefer a thicker crust, dip the potato balls in egg and then breadcrumbs again before air frying.
- You can also bake these in the oven at 400°F for 15-20 minutes if you don’t have an air fryer.
- These can be made ahead of time and frozen. Just freeze them before air frying and cook from frozen for an extra few minutes.
