Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 loaf French bread (halved lengthwise)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 lb thinly sliced steak (ribeye or sirloin)
  • 1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup shredded provolone cheese
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  • Prepare the Bread: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Place the French bread halves on a baking sheet, cut side up.
  • Make the Garlic Butter: In a small bowl, mix the melted butter with garlic powder. Brush this mixture generously over the cut sides of the French bread.
  • Cook the Steak and Veggies: Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the sliced steak and cook, stirring occasionally, for 3-4 minutes until browned and cooked through. Remove the steak and set aside.
  • Sauté the Veggies: In the same skillet, add the bell pepper, onion, and garlic. Sauté for 3-5 minutes until the vegetables are tender and caramelized.
  • Season and Combine: Season the veggies with salt, pepper, paprika, and Worcestershire sauce. Stir to combine, then return the cooked steak to the skillet. Cook for another 2 minutes, stirring occasionally to combine everything.
  • Assemble the Cheesy Bread: Spoon the steak and veggie mixture evenly over the garlic buttered bread. Sprinkle the mozzarella and provolone cheeses on top.
  • Bake: Place the bread in the preheated oven and bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly, and the bread edges are golden and crispy.
  • Garnish and Serve: Remove the cheesy bread from the oven, garnish with fresh parsley, slice into individual pieces, and serve immediately.

Notes

  • You can use any type of bread that you prefer, but French bread provides the perfect sturdy base.
  • Add some sautéed mushrooms or hot peppers for extra flavor!
  • If you want a crispier texture, you can broil the bread for the last 1-2 minutes of baking.
  • This recipe can be doubled to serve a larger crowd.
