Instructions
- 12 mozzarella cheese sticks
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup cornstarch
- 1/2 cup beer (lager or ale works best)
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp paprika
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Oil for frying (vegetable or canola oil)
Notes
- Prepare the Cheese:
Freeze the mozzarella cheese sticks for at least 1 hour before frying. This will help prevent them from melting too much during the frying process. - Make the Batter:
In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
Add the egg and beer, whisking until the batter is smooth and thick enough to coat the cheese sticks. If the batter is too thin, add a little more flour. - Coat the Cheese Sticks:
Dip each frozen mozzarella stick into the batter, coating it completely. Then place it on a parchment-lined tray. For an extra crispy coating, you can dip the battered cheese stick back into the flour mixture and coat it a second time. - Fry the Mozzarella Sticks:
Heat about 2-3 inches of oil in a deep frying pan or skillet over medium-high heat (about 350°F or 175°C).
Carefully add the battered cheese sticks in batches to the hot oil. Fry for 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and crispy on all sides. Use tongs or a slotted spoon to remove them from the oil and drain on paper towels. - Serve:
Serve the mozzarella sticks hot with your favorite dipping sauce (like marinara or ranch). Enjoy!
