- 1 small head of cabbage, thinly sliced (about 6 cups)
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 onion, thinly sliced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1-inch piece of ginger, grated
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce (optional)
- 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce (optional)
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional for heat)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Green onions, chopped, for garnish
- Sesame seeds (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
-
Cook the Ground Beef:
- Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
- Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it apart with a spatula until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Drain any excess fat if needed and set the beef aside.
-
Sauté the Aromatics:
- In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of vegetable oil.
- Add the sliced onion and sauté for 2-3 minutes until softened.
- Add the minced garlic and grated ginger, cooking for an additional 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
-
Cook the Cabbage:
- Add the sliced cabbage to the skillet and stir-fry for about 4-5 minutes, until it begins to soften but still has a bit of crunch.
-
Add Sauces and Season:
- Return the cooked ground beef to the skillet with the cabbage.
- Add soy sauce, oyster sauce (if using), hoisin sauce (if using), and sesame oil to the pan. Stir everything to combine and coat the beef and cabbage with the sauce.
- Season with crushed red pepper flakes (optional) and salt and pepper to taste.
-
Finish and Serve:
- Stir everything together and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until the cabbage is tender and the flavors are well combined.
- Remove from heat and garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds (if desired).
Notes
- ou can add other vegetables like bell peppers, carrots, or mushrooms for extra flavor and nutrition.
