Description

This creamy smothered chicken and rice recipe features tender, juicy chicken smothered in a rich, creamy sauce, served over fluffy rice. Perfect for a cozy dinner, this dish combines the comforting flavors of seasoned chicken, savory gravy, and creamy goodness that will leave your family asking for more.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 cup long-grain white rice
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of chicken soup
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • Fresh parsley (for garnish)

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In a large skillet, heat the butter over medium heat. Add the chicken breasts, season with salt, pepper, paprika, and garlic powder, and cook until golden brown on both sides (about 5 minutes per side). Remove chicken from the skillet and set aside.
  • In the same skillet, add the chopped onion and garlic, sautéing for 2-3 minutes until softened.
  • Add the cream of chicken soup, chicken broth, and heavy cream to the skillet. Stir to combine and bring to a simmer.
  • Add the rice to the skillet, then place the chicken breasts on top. Spoon some of the creamy sauce over the chicken.
  • Cover with a lid or aluminum foil and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through and the rice is tender.

  • Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, you can substitute the chicken broth with homemade stock.
  • Add vegetables like peas or carrots to the rice for extra flavor and nutrition.

  • This dish pairs wonderfully with a side salad or steamed vegetables.
