Description

This Creamy Chicken Sausage Orzo Skillet is a one-pan dinner dream! Packed with tender chicken sausage, creamy sauce, and perfectly cooked orzo, this dish is a comforting, easy-to-make meal that’s perfect for weeknight dinners. It’s indulgent, yet light, and comes together in just 30 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

  • 4 chicken sausages (sliced)

  • 1 medium onion (diced)

  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)

  • 1 cup orzo pasta

  • 2 cups chicken broth (low-sodium)

  • 1/2 cup heavy cream

  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

  • Fresh parsley (for garnish)

Instructions

  • Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced chicken sausage and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Remove from the skillet and set aside.

  • In the same skillet, add the diced onion and cook until softened, about 3 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional 30 seconds.

  • Add the orzo pasta to the skillet and stir to combine with the onions and garlic. Toast the orzo for 1-2 minutes.

  • Pour in the chicken broth and bring to a simmer. Cover the skillet and let the orzo cook for about 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until most of the liquid has absorbed.

  • Stir in the heavy cream, Parmesan cheese, and cooked sausage. Season with dried thyme, salt, and pepper. Stir until the sauce is creamy and everything is well combined.

  • Simmer for an additional 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens and the dish is heated through.

  • Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.

Notes

You can use spicy chicken sausage for a little extra kick!

For a lighter version, replace heavy cream with half-and-half or use a plant-based alternative.

Add some spinach or kale in the last 2 minutes of cooking for extra veggies.
