Ingredients
Scale
For the Dough:
- 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
- 1 1/2 cups warm water (110°F/45°C)
- 1 tsp sugar
- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 tbsp olive oil
For the Sauce:
- 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1/2 tsp dried basil
- Salt and pepper to taste
For the Toppings:
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/2 cup pepperoni slices (optional)
- 1/2 cup sliced bell peppers (optional)
- 1/2 cup sliced mushrooms (optional)
- Fresh basil for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Make the Dough:
- In a small bowl, dissolve the sugar in the warm water, then sprinkle the yeast over the top. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- In a large bowl, combine the flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil, and mix until the dough starts to come together.
- Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place the dough in an oiled bowl, cover with a clean towel, and let it rise for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Prepare the Sauce:
- While the dough is rising, heat the olive oil in a saucepan over medium heat. Add the garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, and basil. Stir for about 1 minute until fragrant.
- Add the tomato sauce, season with salt and pepper, and let it simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Set aside to cool.
- Assemble the Pizza:
- Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). Grease a large baking sheet or pizza pan with olive oil.
- Punch down the dough and transfer it to the prepared pan. Use your hands to stretch the dough to cover the pan.
- Spread the prepared sauce evenly over the dough, leaving a small border for the crust.
- Sprinkle the mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses over the sauce, then add your desired toppings.
- Bake the Pizza:
- Place the pizza in the preheated oven and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbling and slightly browned.
- Serve:
- Remove the pizza from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Slice and serve, garnished with fresh basil if desired.
