Ingredients
Scale
For the Pop-Tarts:
- 2 sheets of refrigerated pie crust (or homemade pie crust, if preferred)
- 1/2 cup strawberry jam or mixed berry jam (or any berry jam of your choice)
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
For the Icing:
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons milk (adjust as needed for consistency)
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2–3 drops pink food coloring (optional)
- Sprinkles for decoration (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven:
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat. - Prepare the Dough:
Roll out the pie crust sheets on a lightly floured surface. Using a knife or a pizza cutter, cut each sheet into rectangles (about 3×4 inches each). - Assemble the Pop-Tarts:
Place a tablespoon of jam in the center of half of the rectangles. Be careful not to overfill, as the jam will spill out during baking. Place another rectangle of dough on top of each filled rectangle, pressing down the edges to seal. Use a fork to crimp the edges together. - Apply the Egg Wash:
Beat the egg in a small bowl and brush the tops of the pop-tarts with the egg wash. This will give the pop-tarts a golden, shiny finish when baked. - Bake the Pop-Tarts:
Place the pop-tarts on the prepared baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown. Remove from the oven and let them cool on a wire rack. - Make the Icing:
While the pop-tarts cool, make the icing by mixing the powdered sugar, milk, vanilla extract, and food coloring (if using) in a small bowl. Stir until smooth and adjust the consistency by adding more milk if needed. - Decorate the Pop-Tarts:
Once the pop-tarts are completely cool, drizzle the icing over the top and sprinkle with colorful sprinkles. Allow the icing to set for a few minutes before serving. - Serve:
Serve these delightful Valentine’s Day treats with a glass of milk or enjoy them on their own for a sweet, festive snack.
Notes
- You can substitute the jam for other berry fillings, such as raspberry or blueberry, depending on your preference.
- For a more decadent treat, add a layer of chocolate chips or cream cheese filling along with the berry jam.
- These pop-tarts are best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
