Ingredients
For the Puff Pastry:
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 4 large eggs
For the Cream Filling:
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
For the Assembly:
- Fresh strawberries, sliced
Instructions
- Prepare the Puff Pastry:
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- In a medium saucepan, melt the butter and water over medium heat. Once it’s melted, bring the mixture to a simmer.
- Gradually add the flour and stir until a dough forms. Continue to cook for another 2-3 minutes, allowing the dough to dry out slightly.
- Remove the dough from the heat and let it cool for about 5 minutes.
- Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition until the dough is smooth and glossy.
- Bake the Puffs:
- Drop tablespoon-sized scoops of dough onto a parchment-lined baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed up.
- Let the puffs cool completely on a wire rack.
- Make the Cream Filling:
- In a large bowl, beat the heavy cream until soft peaks form.
- In another bowl, beat the cream cheese, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt until smooth and creamy.
- Gently fold the whipped cream into the cream cheese mixture until fully combined.
- Assemble the Cream Puffs:
- Slice the cooled puffs in half.
- Spoon or pipe the cream filling into the bottom half of each puff.
- Top with fresh strawberry slices and then place the top half of the puff on top.
- Serve and Enjoy:
- Dust the cream puffs with powdered sugar, if desired, and serve immediately!
Notes
- Make sure to use room-temperature eggs for the best texture in your puff pastry.
- You can refrigerate the filled cream puffs for up to 2 hours before serving, but they’re best enjoyed fresh.
- If you’re short on time, you can make the puff pastry and cream filling ahead of time and assemble them right before serving.
- For extra flavor, drizzle some chocolate or caramel sauce over the top before serving.
