Ingredients

Scale

For the Puff Pastry:

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 4 large eggs

For the Cream Filling:

  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

For the Assembly:

  • Fresh strawberries, sliced

Instructions

  • Prepare the Puff Pastry:
    • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
    • In a medium saucepan, melt the butter and water over medium heat. Once it’s melted, bring the mixture to a simmer.
    • Gradually add the flour and stir until a dough forms. Continue to cook for another 2-3 minutes, allowing the dough to dry out slightly.
    • Remove the dough from the heat and let it cool for about 5 minutes.
    • Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition until the dough is smooth and glossy.
  • Bake the Puffs:
    • Drop tablespoon-sized scoops of dough onto a parchment-lined baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
    • Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed up.
    • Let the puffs cool completely on a wire rack.
  • Make the Cream Filling:
    • In a large bowl, beat the heavy cream until soft peaks form.
    • In another bowl, beat the cream cheese, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt until smooth and creamy.
    • Gently fold the whipped cream into the cream cheese mixture until fully combined.
  • Assemble the Cream Puffs:
    • Slice the cooled puffs in half.
    • Spoon or pipe the cream filling into the bottom half of each puff.
    • Top with fresh strawberry slices and then place the top half of the puff on top.
  • Serve and Enjoy:
    • Dust the cream puffs with powdered sugar, if desired, and serve immediately!

Notes

  • Make sure to use room-temperature eggs for the best texture in your puff pastry.
  • You can refrigerate the filled cream puffs for up to 2 hours before serving, but they’re best enjoyed fresh.
  • If you’re short on time, you can make the puff pastry and cream filling ahead of time and assemble them right before serving.
  • For extra flavor, drizzle some chocolate or caramel sauce over the top before serving.
