Ingredients
Scale
For the Donuts:
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon matcha powder (make sure it’s culinary grade)
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
For the Glaze:
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 teaspoons matcha powder
- 1–2 tablespoons milk (adjust as needed for consistency)
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a donut pan or spray it with non-stick cooking spray. - Prepare the Dry Ingredients:
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, matcha powder, baking powder, and salt until well combined. - Mix the Wet Ingredients:
In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, melted butter, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract. - Combine the Wet and Dry Ingredients:
Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Be careful not to overmix—it’s okay if the batter is slightly lumpy. - Fill the Donut Pan:
Spoon the batter into the donut pan, filling each cavity about 3/4 full. You can also use a piping bag to fill the cavities more neatly. - Bake the Donuts:
Bake the donuts in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow the donuts to cool in the pan for a few minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely. - Make the Matcha Glaze:
While the donuts cool, whisk together the powdered sugar, matcha powder, milk, and vanilla extract (if using) until smooth. If the glaze is too thick, add a bit more milk until you reach your desired consistency. - Glaze the Donuts:
Once the donuts are completely cool, dip the tops into the matcha glaze, allowing any excess glaze to drip off. Place the glazed donuts back on the wire rack to set. - Serve:
Once the glaze has hardened slightly, serve the donuts fresh or store them in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
Notes
- If you don’t have a donut pan, you can bake these in a muffin tin for a donut-hole-like result, adjusting the baking time accordingly.
- Adjust the sweetness of the glaze by adding more powdered sugar or milk, depending on your preference.
- You can also sprinkle the donuts with extra matcha powder or top with crushed nuts for added texture.
